The kickdown switch produced a weak sounding click at the tranny when I exercised it by hand with my head hanging under the car and my arm reaching along the floor board to press the pedal button. As I remember it, the last time I tested that it was a lot louder. So I am hopeful that when I jack it up and remove the solenoid on Monday I will find it has just jammed in the downshift position.
Personal note - I had no idea how much I cared about this car until the thought of having to retire it became a real possibility. It has been true and faithful for over 14 years now. My time with it has exceeded my marriage and it had way more miles on it when I found it than my wife ever had. If only they could make women like Mercedes makes cars . . .
