So ;

Sunday I headed out to Ontario, Ca. to salvage the steering wheel off a 1972 Mercedes 300D Sedan (Photo #1) and discovered I didn't have the correct size socket (? 22MM?) so I harvested some used fuel injectors and fuel transfer pressure relief valves, an early high pitch horn I can repair, some other bits and bobs and in time a nice Gentleman came by with a Child's trailer full of tools, he loaned me fractional sockets until I discovered the 7/8" one fits like a dream and I got the complete '72 wheel, horn button and hardware .

Whilst I was scavenging I found a better condition steering wheel on a 1981 W126 and grabbed it, took all this home and in the later afternoon I cleaned it up and installed it to my '84 Diesel Sports Coupe, it looks far better than the old one, I still have to tinker and see how one mounts the '72 wheel to the W123 chassis....

It turns out the W123 and early W126 both use the same steering wheel .

In between I made a Kamikaze run from Ontario to Burbank ~ didja know one can travel from Ontario to Burbank in only 40 minutes ? I didn't but I do now ~ it turns out one needs to maintain right at 80 MPH the whole way *;) winking .

I was only one hour late to the L.A. Cretins M.C. Moto Jumble....

I found a brandy new reproduction Triumph taillight for my Kawasaki W650 (the one I nearly died on in 2008) , had nice chats with many of the Fellas before bugging out for home and hearth where I got some works done before dark .

If I can figure out the proper attachment, I'll have the '72 wheel rebuilt and painted eggshell so it won't be hot in the Desert sun .
