Well you got your moneys worth. However if you look on Craigslist you might find one. I think I paid only a couple hundred dollars to buy the transmission in your car. I then put it in myself in my garage. It came from Utah and the shipping was about the same as the cost of the transmission...cheap.. You might try getting on the diesel_mercedes@yahoogroups.com list and query someone there. I however am out of the diesel veg thing. Did it for more than a decade and now run a Nissan Leaf which I hope you will embrace. Yes it does take some planning but it is cheaper by far than the Mercedes to run. Much cleaner too. Very dependable. Low service cost. I have gone to San Diego three times with it as a network of fast chargers is now in place. I paid 14k for mine and got 0% loan from Nissan and am paying 250 for 5 years for it. It had 2,600 miles on it and was like brand new. A 2013 model. Lots of good deals out there for electric since the 200 mile models have made the 100 mile models go down in price. Most under 10k if you look. Anyway enough preaching. It's not hard to take out the parts that can be resold but alas the demand for veg is way down. Everyone is in gas euphoria or going electric. David Phan is one mechanic you might talk to. You can get your model for next to nothing now if you can find a good one. Let me know if I can help further. How many miles on it when it went South? 400k? Lawrence

Hey Lawrence!
It is with a heavy heart I'm reporting that the 77 240D I bought from you threw the timing belt & is now toast. I wanted to reach out for any advice before I scrap her - if you know anyone with a W123 engine who's interested in a body to put her in, the transmission is really strong & we just replaced the brakes, brake booster & recently the radiator. We'd also like to pull out the Plant Drive to sell to anyone looking for that at the very least.
Cheers & thanks,
Francesca
