FWIW ;
It's very important to disconnect each ball pivot and wipe the dirt and rust off the ball before lubricating each pivot .
I also use Q-Tips to clean out the female part .
Mercedes says to use ATF , I waffle with various lubricants , grease , light machine oil , ATF and sometimes (when I'm traveling and hear a squeak) engine oil from the dipstick .
The rod ends are easier to pop loose is you work the throttle slowly at the same time you pop them off......
