Years ago, my uncle, who lived out there, told me you didn't need AC in LA. It didn't get that hot for that long, and it's a dry heat, anyway. (Much like Denver, really. Then again, there are a lot people here, recent arrivals, who believe AC is important here, too. Silly people....) 'Course it depends on what is meant by "LA". The further away from the coast, the hotter it gets. Is Riverside "LA"?

Well Max ;
Back when my car was new I only weighed 165 # so it was easy .
Now I'm old and 240 # so I prefer AC when I can get it , oddly enough I drive my Metropolitan Nash more in the Summer than in any part of the year .
I'm in the process of re learning AC Service , I stopped in 1986 IIRC , cannot seem ot find an honest or competent AC man anywhere so I'll just do what I have to do .
The plus side is : Tom's old 1979 Dodge D200 cvrew cab pickup will once again have AC before too long =8-)
To directly answer your question : I drive with the vents open and the fan on , windows down and elbow out .
I figure I can use to sweat off some pounds , a bit of sweating like a naughty girl in Church never hurt anyone

AC is still dead but it's running fine , I adjusted the valves recently .
387 miles 24.2 MPG .
It's very consistent freeway or in town .
For now I'm finished tinkering on it , all the windows and door checks work as - new again and i added the plastic vapor barriers , replaced the slightly cracked driver's side door card and up graded the driver's arm rest to full length
To - day I washed and waxed it ~ boy that's a LOT of car to wax~ I didn't actually wax the whole thing but it sure is shiny & pretty now .
I have to replace the rotted exhaust hangers with the improved R107 ones then I can give it back to SWMBO ~ she'll love it as I removed and shampooed all the carpets and did some serious de greasing etc. , etc......
I'm still looking for the third seat seat belts .
