I'm sitting here writing about a tiny fraction of yesterdays fun with old Mercedes' (most of the day was spent on the wagon) when SWMBO says ' coffee ? ' and I jump at the chance to see if my injector pipes are still weeping , etc. etc .
I get One mile away and am waiting for a traffic light when the engine begins to shudder and stall.........
I shut it off , turned on the hazard lights and waited for the green light , re started it and wheezed and gasped across the intersection to the Winchells , managed to get it into an uphill parking space , got her coffee and do-nut holes , came back out and added my two gallons of fresh (CLEAR/BLUE YAY !) Mobil branded Diesel , looked at the clear plastic intake screen , it was clear and no debris so I pumped the (new style) primer until I felt resistance and saw the air bubbles bleeding out of the dark clear hose leading from the secondary filter to the IP , got in , cycled the glow plugs 25 seconds , held the throttle pinned and began cranking ~ it took longer than I'd hoped but in time it began run run if slowly , I held onto the starter until the tach showed 1,000 RPM's then let it off and the engine gained RPM's and smoothness until it belched out a cloud of grey Diesel fuel smoke and ran easily on all five cylinders .
I reset the odometer and will re fill the tank to - morrow with Mobil Diesel to see if it remains clear/blue .
Maye , just maybe it'll be better now .
If so I still have to see if it smokes , if so it's time to scrap the injection pump .
Whew .
Interestingly , although it was garage parked there was slight water condensate on the inside of the filler cap .
Time for coffee and get ready for my Grand Daughter's third birthday party , we'll take the 240D so SWMBO won't get nervous about running out of fuel plus I want to check it's fluid levels , tire pressures and so on .
