Re: [diesel_mercedes] MERCY !

sounds great.  I recently purchased a 265,000 mi 85 300SD.  Starts good runs good interior is something of a mess and I have to rework the rear windows so that they operate.  They are both disconnected internally.  A winter job. That and a brake job.  My main problem is that the engine revs unduly at the shifts.  I think there is a relatively simple remedy for this but I can't remember what it is .  Can anyone help?

Some here may recall I recently had a fellow M-B'er test my spare injectors and found several ' droolers ' as well as all out of spec. on the '82 240D Slushbox , I replaced them and changed the two fuel filters , up graded the fuel tank to a lager one and began heavily dosing it with Startron as the clear plastic primary screen kept filling with both coffee colored fuel and tiny bit of jet black crud .

I refueled the car from essentially dry the other day and changed the clear intake screen and again , added a quart of Startron and motorvated away with SWMBO , didn't get a chance to peer under the hood again until Saturday evening ~

I got on the Freeway and needed to cross five lanes to the left exit as fast as the poor old 2.4 Liter engine (with one bad hole0 would go , shut off the AC , shifted into thrird gear and pinned the throttle , it took off fairly well for a four cylinder Diesel , I up shifted into fourth gear at just under 40 MPH and felt it surge ahead , there was traffic behind me and closing so I kept the throttle pinned

and was pleased to see the speedo climb past 85 MPH and pin against the peg ~ the engine was roaring right along and was still accelerating , as soon as i wasn't holding up traffic I eased off it and back to 60 MPH , it only raised the coolant temp to 90° C , a very good thing indeed .

When I arrived in Los Angeles I popped the hood for a look see and was pleased to see the clear filter was clear of any debris or cloudy fuel .

Maybe , just maybe I have turned the corner here and have killed off the fungus .

I hope so as I'm keen to get the cylinder head and oil pan off this engine and do a periodic overhaul and comprehensive gasket/seal replacement and rebuild the tranny too .

Fingers crossed ! .

It's _never_ been able to go over 80 MPH indicated before in the whole time we've owned it , I surely wish I'da had my Garmin so I could have tested the actual top speed .
