Re: [diesel_mercedes] Brakes

I have a 1980 240 4-spd and this has happened to me twice. I bought a new master for around $100 but have not installed it yet. I think I got it from Arizona parts Haus. My car sits all winter every winter but gets driven once a week in non winter.  Max

Check your master cylinder.  Look through or in the reservoir.  If the
fluid is dark and dirty, your master cylinder seals are degrading.  This
is the only way I know to loose pedal pressure and not be leaking fluid
somewhere.

The seals don't seal, allowing the fluid to pass by, picking up the
black rubber particles and feeding them back to the reservoir.

I believe rebuilt master cylinders are available and not too expensive.
Be careful who you buy it from.  Some stores have a lifetime warranty,
but the brand new ones leaked immediately and never worked.

Cold doesn't matter to brake fluid/parts.  You may have had the seals
stick due to sitting too long and they tore.
