SWEET ! .
I installed a set of used , carefully pop tested and O.K. (no drooling) injectors to my 1981 240D Automatic Sedan with 340,000 miles on it and a badly worn out engine (200# compression in # 1 cylinder) , the smoking is gone except at hot idle in gear with the AC on.....
As soon as it clears idle speed , the smoke cuts off and away I go .
It's still very sluggish off idle and I'm expecting the new valve cover gasket to arrive to - day late so as soon as I put a valve adjust to it , we'll see .
The new 21 gallon tank was below the empty mark but the low fuel lamp only lit of the car was parked on a sloped street , as I have *much* long distance traveling to do to - morrow with SWMBO & Foster boys I cleaned out the clear plastic intake filter (darkish fuel and some floating chunks) , filled it up at lunch.
467 miles 27.7 MPG ~ I like that , it's been a long time since I saw over 25 MPG in this car....
I can hardly wait for my next Desert trip to see if it'll do 30 again .
Oh yeah ~ $2.89 / gallon . not great but pretty good for California .

Clapped out 1981 240D W/ slush box , routinely gets 25 ~ 27 MPG's in mixed driving , going slowly (60 MPH) across the Desert gets 27 ~ 34 MPG's fully loaded , always with the AC on full .
'78 & '80 N/A 300CD's both got 23 ~ 26 MPG's , both had over 300,000 miles and slush box trannies , one had AC (EVIL Klima I

'84 300CD W/ slush box got 23 ~ 26 MPG's on the old nearly dead engine that ran like a raped ape , I rebuilt the engine and the mileage went up to 27 MPG , has dropped back down to 23 ~ 25 now so I have the injectors out and waiting for a valve cover gasket , I hope it'll run stronger and improve fuel economy with LESS DAMN SMOKE once I finish this part of the job .
