My favorite scam on Craigslist is someone who says they want an item and then offers to pay  a higher than asked price for it to have it picked up later.  When you deposit their check, which usually isn't good, they then get your account information.  My standard response is either show up in person with cash or  Fedex cash.  I haven't gotten a favorable response yet.

I consider that a reasonable note of caution.  See eBay's Security Center and/or "craigslist > about > scams" for a more detailed description of known scams. 
 
I don't consider it "flaming" to offer friendly (often experienced) advice.
 
His advice/warning should be taken in the spirit it was offered.  If you disagree, that is your prerogative, ignore it at your own risk.
