The blue wire leads to the dash light and has a positive current when the key is one , this energizes the field to begin the charging .
Test it with a test light not a meter
If you unplug this blue wire and turn on the key , the red charge dash light should go out ~ ground it and the red light should come on .

I did clean the connections to the alternator. Two white and one blue. The two white are larger and protrude further. They are both positive. The shorter blue wire is negative. Lawrence Rhodes
