Well, Sylvia's back on the road - new master cylinder, and new rotors and pads all around. No fluid in the booster thankfully and thanks to all that replied to my queries!
Had my friendly local shop do the work instead of the MB diesel masters - difference in shop labor rate is more than $25/hr (~$80/hr vs ~$110/hr) - so I only take it to the specialist when it involves vacuum or hard core diesel specific work. 3.5 hrs labor, parts, cores, fresh DOT 4 fluid throughout and tax brings the job cost to ~$950. Front rotors were warped after 5 years of driving - rear were rusted - which is weird because the calipers are not stuck. Ideas anyone? Pads still bedding in but now stops on a tenth of a Deutschmark.
Not sure how much longer I can afford to keep pouring money into this beast - if I do sell it, whoever gets it will have a lifetime of good parts to pull or a lot less to fix than your average 30 year old, 300k mi 300SD 😃
