[diesel_mercedes] Charging system Again

OK, I followed the last time this came up in the forum but now am a bit unclear.

My Mercedes 1984 300D is not charging. I start the car and battery reads about 12.10 volts. Rev the engine slightly and it does not change. With Car turned off, reads about 12.15.  This tells me the alternator is dead, Correct?

OK, so I need a new one.  Made some calls, there are 55 and 65 Amp ones available.  I know from this forum I need one with a Bosch voltage regulator.  How do I find the right alternator with a bosch regulator.  Are the 55 and 65 volt ones interchangeable?  I do not want to do this job twice.  I will also run a ground wire from the battery to the alternator bracket when I replace this unit.

In the past, I have always bought lifetime warranty units for other cars from Kragens.  From what I read here, that is not the best option.

Thanks, Nick
