Hey Nate,
I'm not sure what he was referring to regarding unwanted messages. The Yahoo system message I saw that was sent to him was triggered when he tried to send a message to the group; banned folks get an automatic message explaining that they are banned and unable to message the group. So the easy solution for not getting that message is for him to not send messages to the group, since they will always be rejected.
If he (or anyone else who has been banned) is getting unwanted messages from this group, they should contact Yahoo support. Banned members are automatically unsubscribed from the group, so they shouldn't receive messages from us (other than the rejection notice if they send the group a message).
