[diesel_mercedes] Slushbox ' Fun ' (?)

 

 

People who overhaul slush boxes always natter on about how easy it is and that I should take it up , like my plate isn't overflowing with backed up jobs now .

Be aware that the typical Mercedes automatic tranny is good for about 250,000 before it goes kaput . just _HOT_ change the ATF every 20,000 miles and it'll prolly outlast you .

I'm sure Victor uses the re designed B2 servo on every tranny he fixes .

I need to do the tranny in SWMBO's 240D , it stopped going into fourth gear several years ago so I slowly drove it to Victor and said " rebuild it please " , I got back and he'd fixed it instead for  under $200 ~ it works fine yes but it leaks and I had to add a 1/2 pint to - day , every other fillup I have to top off the tranny , I don't like this and SWMBO doesn't like her nicely painted driveway always having oil on it .

Wow, I am much lighter today. About $1790 lighter as a matter of fact. But, I have a completely rebuilt transmission that should last another 300,000 miles. Happy with Victor in East Pasadena who stands behind his work, and says all the right words. Turns out it was not the B2 piston, but was the "?band?" that broke. Victor says he sees 99 of these breaking to only 1 of the B2's in his shop. I'll use him again for heavy duty stuff, although I think MB transmission repair is not overly complicated if you know what you are doing. brian
