If you hear the whirring sound of the electric starter motor spinning but nothing else happening (no grinding/screetching etc.) , 99 % of the time , this means the Bendix (gear thing) on the starter is kaputi ~ if you like to tinker , order one up along with a set of new brushes and have at it .
Otherwise , replace the starter with a Bosch branded rebuilt unit .
Once it spins and flat refuses to crank the engine , here's a tip : spin it then let go the ignition key and turn it all the way off and then back to the cranking position *just* before the starter's inertia is gone , it'll grab and start your car .
DO NOT do this to cheaply squeeze a few more months/years out of your starter ! .
