I stopped in to fill up my beloved Turbo Diesel Sports Coupe this afternoon after driving 15 miles through South Central L.A. (sounds scary but it's the same as Peoria) with the fuel gauge on "E" and the green triangle leering at me......
429 miles , AC on pretty much the whole tank , 25.7 MPG .
As it was filling I popped the hood as I'm 75 miles to routine oil & filter change and looked at the clear plastic intake screen and Lo ! once again I detect tiny chunks of coal looking stuff , the liquid fuel proper , is clear as glass but the mesh screen inside the red supports , looked full so I quickly popped the trunk and opened the stock tool kit and grabbed the # 2 phillips screw driver , removed the screen and blew it out backwards , then re - installed it feed end first as there was fuel dribbling out the open hose , then I held it upright and allowed all the air bubbles to bleed out before re connecting the other hose .
The car seems to run fine but I always worry about those damn fungus bits , maybe Tom and I will go to Long beach Pick-A-Part to-morrow worning and pass by West Marine where i'll buy yet another gallon jug of Startron by starbright .

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Oh No ! (here We Go Again)
Nate,
We could go to Long Beach in the morning. In the afternoon, while it is hot outside, maybe you could supervise me in the shady garage and make sure that I don't get the wrong wire on the wrong spark plug on the Caddy.
I've looked at both the HBOL and the Chilton's book. Both of them show that Cadillac changes the rotation of the distributor every year or two. So it looks as if the cable hold down ring that I so carefully sneaked out of the yard has the numbers for a counterclockwise year, and my engine is a clockwise one.
So much for having the molded in cylinder numbers.
It's just after 10:00 now and I'm heading to bed. So I'll be up reasonably early.
