Tom came by this morning early and took me off to one of the smaller but still good Self-Service junkyards in The South Bay , I found a rather nice 1989 W-126 300SD with 200,800 mies , new motor mounts , no dents , no oil leaks , recent injectors , so on and so forth so I removed the intake boot and discovered the intake was almost dry ~ a rare thing indeed as it indicates both little engine blowby and no oil leaks in the turbo's seals so we broke out the tools and in 35 minutes I had a spiffy new (used) turbo for my Coupe . I also got another spare air cleaner 'T' bracket as they still occasionally break on my car , Tom says I shouldn't drive it so hard & fast but what does he know  . they're cheap so I'll just keep replacing them .Near the entracne was a BIG trash barrel full of stuff , I'd spotted factory tool kit tools in it before so I began digging , it was pretty nasty as the yard apes toss random trash in there but in the end I found 10 tools I wanted including two of those hard to find threaded studs so handy for aligning your spare tire when changing a flat , also a brand new Heyco part of Water Pump Pliers , they're marked BMW but are still good quality . The guy in charge of the used tools/trash , charged me $6 for all 10 tools and seemed amused I'd bothered to uload them re fill almost the entire trash bin , I tried not to do a Pee-Pee dance . Tom gathered up a bunch of Mercedes toolkit tools and also paid only $6 , the deal of the day for sure . In end end , I got a turbo charger with all the hardware, brackers and clamps , the 'U' intake pipe , air cleaner 'T' bracket , 6 relays and a hand full of those fuel hose clamps all for only $147.83 including tax and core charge ~ it's good to be a " regular " where they know and like you . He even gave me a 15 day refund / exchange warranty as if I'd ever return a used junykard part . Then we headed off to West L.A. and replaced the ignition and wires on Tom's Hearse , it now runs smooth as silk again and will hopefully whistle through it's SMOG Test next week . I felt pretty good for a change , always never ending pain and feeling useless , to - day I got some things done and feel good about that . -Nate |
