I'd say it's a $500 car _maximum_ as the front end appears to have been switched or or re painted once before this accident .
Unload the trunk and check for rust ,look up under neath the right front wheel well for rust damage around the sway bar hole , this is below the battery tray and can be repaired but is a problem .
Should be an easy fixer , just make sure he understand he'll to$$ more $ into it @ Pick-A-Part than it'll ever be worth and long distance driving in a 240D , is best done @ 60 ~ 65 MPH as faster beats up the engine badly .

I was looking at a wrecked (sideswiped) $500 240D to transplant the drivetrain out of into SWMBO's '82 240D but I don't have the energy .
