Re: [diesel_mercedes] 1975 300D CHEAP

First avoid the dark brown paint at all cost. It actually has something in it that promotes rust. After that the door bottoms and anywhere trim metal meets body metal. Under the carpets should be checked. Of course the battery tray. And around the rocker panels and the usual places in the trunk. That's a 4-body trunk by the way. Huge. Good luck.

Bogy,
Where are  the locations that should be checked on this model for rot? I have been considering the purchase of a 115. Thanks.

That is a sweet 115. too nice for me really. a 75 115 was my introduction to MB some 10 years ago now. ended up selling it to a kid for $1500. three days later he ran the lower front end subframe over a rock up a snowy utah canyon road. No insurance. (Kids!) When I got back into town I bought it back for 300 and swapped the front end subframe with one I had in a parts donor. Sold 'em both to another guy for another $1500. Those were the days. Someone had put a 4 speed manual from a 240D into the 300D and it was just nothing short of a pure blast to drive. I even swapped the blower fan before I sold it the second time. Oh well. I've still got a memory or two from it. Good times.

Says ' smokes ' but don't they all ? .

Looks really nice but I'm not fond of the 114/115 Chassis .

This *could* be a real bargain for some one to use as daily transpo .
