You're right: No such thing as an '86 300CD. It's either a typo, or somethings wrong with the title/registration.
If it was made '81 or later, it will have the same transmission as all the W126's. Nothing especially different about it, except the W123's used a mechanical rather than the W126's electronic speedometer drive. (This is the transmission that can have the B2 servo piston problem.)
Replacing the rear A-arm is a snap, if that's really what it needs. The biggest trick is finding a good used one if you're in the Rust Belt. Easy to find if west of the Missouri.
If all it truly needs is a battery and the A-arm, $1000 is a bargain....
(IF the title's OK. IF it's not all rust underneath. IF the engine runs just fine. IF the interior hasn't been shredded by a rottie. IF.., well, there's a lotta "ifs" in this deal....)

First-- an '86 W123?? I thought the 5cyl turbodiesel went away in '85.
Does it mean the "different" tranny like on my '85 300SD??
I sent him an email, offering my running rustbucket '85 300SD.
I don't really NEED another vehicle, but this would help me "free" myself of one, even if the CD isn't currently drivable.
...I've always wanted a CD. *sigh*
