What's there to laugh about? This list one of our best MB diesel gurus to a TDI Beetle some five or so years ago. This guy had, in addition to a 300D, a 240DT (gray-market wagon) that he had correctly fitted a turbo to (with piston coolers and turbo pistons), before running up over half a million miles on it. He had a garage full of W123 parts. He bought this used VW, found he got over 40 mpg pulling his RV, sold the MBs and all the parts, and hasn't been heard from here since.... And this guy had owned MB diesels, new and used, for decades!

Ironically, with all of the Mercedes I own / have owned, I am currently driving a (don't laugh guys) 2000 VW 5 speed Beetle turbo diesel (flower vase removed). It gets consistent 49 MPG and has plenty of room and power. It is German engineering, how can you go wrong. I have a few cars for sale, let me know.
