[diesel_mercedes] Decompression Blues Revisited

I am always amazed at the level of help that is available from this board as we try to keep our 35 year old diesels alive and well.

Way back in 2009 I posted "Decompression Blues" where I advised this group that I probably was going to scrap my efforts to drive and restore my 300cd turbo coupe because of my mechanics compression test on my car.
At that time, this group advised me to "adjust the valves" or "drive it anyway".

I took the "drive it anyway" approach for two years. I had an occasionally rough idling coupe that could cause embarrassment at red lights, but otherwise, was completely functional and zippy.

Well, a year ago, I gave my car over to another local mechanic back in NC to do work while I transitioned to new job in Houston. One of the jobs left for him was to adjust my valves.

My car returned to me a week ago here in Houston with that repair and several others completed by the shop. To my amazement, the "miss" or "dead cylinder" at idle was completely gone. I had previously done new engine mounts and an air cleaner mounting rebuilt. Today, my car is as smooth as silk with lots of power.

Were it not for this board, my coupe would be in some "pick-a-part" with Nate or one of you other guys stripping her clean.
