The SD was MB's most popular model in '79. I wish I had the Nitzke book here to look up the production numbers, but I think it was something close to 18,000.

Looks like the breaking point for that pump on the 1979 MY VINs is to 000001 thru 010481 (last 6). Mine is 010092.

For me, I prefer to rebuild than replace, and, since the diaphragm kits are currently MUCH cheaper than the piston kits, the older design is better....

Mark, did you ever find a rebuild kit for that pump? I can find one for the 1980 SD all day long. Nothing for this oddball on the '79.
