Fun , wasn't it ? .
Tom and I went through this on his W-126 SD on an out of state road trip , I too agreed the rebuilt starter with new solenoid made more sense .
I'da prolly kept the old starter were it my own car .
Could you be more specific as to how it ' crapped out ' ? .
