Gary,
You cannot remove the "Pumpkin" unless you are working on a Ford. Almost the rest are
built into the entire axel housing, this is why the front (rear on front engine rigs)
cover is there. To do the shimming - adjusting. Ford did make it easier, and those that
have a removable pumpkin will not have a removable cover. If I remember correctly however,
there were some truck rear ends that had the ring of bolts around the outer edge of the
"Pumpkin", on the drive shaft side, which means, yes, you do have to remove the axels to
check the ring gear. The pinion gear comes out the drive shaft side.

rear end, gears are in the axel housing, no pumpkin to remove. I think if you look at your
Jeep, it has cover plates, cannot remove the pumpkin.
