[diesel_mercedes] Sub Freezing-- won't start

P.S. As my handbook says don't start like a car.It may take 1.5
minutes of not interrupted cranking to get her going.Like starting an
airplane.It won't hurt the starter.Mine I barely give it the
pedal,maybe a 1/16. Reason The pump to the floor does not work.I
think it floods my cylinders.

    MINE, I hold the pedal to the floor and CRANK until it (300SDL) starts.  It NEVER fails.  Type 49 Energizer battery from Sam's, $72.50.....no block heater, north Detroit area.
