Re: [diesel_mercedes] Easy Cooling System Temps

But it's new gas and hopefully passes quickly..  If that's the case try to keep from flying abut the room in the process.

I have had gas and it can be unpleasant.

Hi Bud ;

I bet you're an old Gasoline engine guy like me .

Diesels love heat because they're compression ignition so Mercedes designed them to run significantly hotter than Gassers, why that tiny little red area on the temperature gauge is so close to the overheat area .

Because I do the citric acid flush and use a 60/40 % mix if coolant and distilled water, my Diesels almost never got above 100* C .

According to Mercedes, as long as there's a sliver of space between the gauge's needle and that last white bit, you're fine, no worries .

Me, I worry when it gets to that point but then I learned to do the routine service .

It was 107* F to - day so I quit working by 09:00, began just before sunup .

I ran those i210 grades you mentioned and didn't reach 100* although it will if I drive over 65 MPH, I know this from experience .

I keep the AC on MAX too ..

I've been thinking of doing some AC electric pusher fan mods and will prolly soon write up some questions .

I've never had a VW Diesel, maybe should have but I was all air cooled, all the way .

Nate,
Got a question for you. Does your Benz run hot(less than 230) going up steep grades such as going up the 210 from the SFV to Pasadena? My 79 300SD runs about 80C in town , 90C on highway but going up grades I'm seeing 110 to 115C(230-240).

Were you on the old VW diesel list?

Thanks,
Bud
