I have that trouble with my wand too.  The good news is that its replaceable on your car.  The whole assembly is available on Ebay. You have to pull the steering wheel, but it is a simple operation.

They are easy enough to remove. Disconnect the wire, pop off the rubbery cover, four screws. I saw an article on the Internet
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eW9zTW7Yo_g

and there was a discussion about grinding something with a dremel. Has anyone done this?

Ford has a cheesy coil spring that breaks in there. No access

[diesel_mercedes] W123 Turn Signal Switch

It's been a while since I took a W123 mast Jacket apart but I do remember it's a clamshell design, drop the two upper support fasteners (prolly 13MM ATF) and gently lower the column 1/4" or so then remove the #2 Phillips screws and gently separate the black plastic half covers ~ IIRC the entire left signaling switch comes off easily for service or repair .

You might want to look in Brian's parts picture folders on the group's home page as he has a staggering amount of good used Service Parts he sells very affordably .

I hope this helps, it's one more fiddly and delicate but not really difficult jobs .
