My college room mate had a Metropolitan. Lots of adventures in that
car. Was there ever another model other than the "coupe".

[diesel_mercedes] Air Cleaner Mounts

Since replacing the '82 240D's intake manifold & broken air cleaner , it's remained amazingly clean and oil free under the hood , I was checking the various fluids as I filled the fuel tank to - night .

On the other hand , my poor old '84 300CD Diesel Sports Coupe has broken yet another rubber air cleaner mount so I'll address that soon .

This week looks busy ~ I have what to do on my Metropolitan Nash Coupe . Tom's '81 W-126 needs a valve adjust , I'd like to begin teardown on the old 292 truck engine I scored and somewhere in there I want to eat turkey and cranberries until I pass out on # 1 Son's sofa......

[diesel_mercedes] Fuel Economy Check '82 240D Auto

Not much AC use this tank

202 miles , 23 MPG's .

Power Service Cetane Boost used , it runs like a scalded cat (for a 240 anyway) .

[diesel_mercedes] Re : Teenager's First Vehicle

In that case ;

He should have to $ave up his own $ and buy , register and repair his own car ~ it'll teach him a valuable life lesson that giving him one , will not .

I'm a VW Mechnic and had a yard full of good VW's when my Son began to drive and he wanted a VW Beetle *very* badly ~ I decided to teach him and told him I'd help but he had to foot the _entire_ bill and he did .

I found him the *exact* year , model and color combination he wanted then beat the price down , it was a very nice car indeed and he took far better care of it than most Teenagers do ~ in time he built it up into a Street Racer that was phenominal as it was still nice to drive daily , he was kinda a jerk about winning all the time though so some bad guys followed him and stole it .

Oh well .

Me ? I'da been happy with a bicycle if my Father had cared enough to give me one .

A teenager's first car is a throw-away; it'll get crashed or trashed no matter what you tell them. Buy a 144 Volvo diesel with an automatic transmission.  Bill in Oregon

I dunno ;

In my old W-123's , I just ordered up new M-B Dealer keys & lightly lubricated the lock cylinders with graphite and all was well ~ this on every one I've bought so far as all are high milers , over 300,000 miles .

Or , are you talking about the vacuum & electrical part ? .

Either way , a decent $650 W-123 is a good thing , be aware it'll never be as fast as your W-126 due to aerodynamics , don't buy him any car he'll want to Hot Rod if it can't do that .

[diesel_mercedes] Re : Injectors , Power & Fuel Economy

Yes but ;

You're a Hot Rodder Nate and Diesels seem to make more power when over fueled a bit .

Not for me , I'll just wait until the turbo spools up then GIDDYAP !! =8-) .

Street/Drag Racing isn't for me , Auto Cross and Canyon Carving is my meat .

I occasionally wonder how much trouble I'd get into with a 6 cylinder electronic injection system...
