The O-Rings are special , the best ones are green in color .

You'd be wise to at the very least replace the receiver-dryer before you evacuate the system .

Flushing the condensor and evaporator is good too as it cleans out the 35 years worth of old oil and much that inhibits heat transfer .

Hey Nate, you got fungus I got starters. I just replaced my starter again about 5 weeks ago. It just went out, again. Solenoid this time, first time for this I think. Bosch rebuilt, main starter motor, , but I'm guessing everything else is crap. Good thing its easy on a 240. Hey, are the starters from TD's the same? I have a Turbo and a non, I was thinking maybe one of those would be a good MB starter. Max

Sort of interesting. When I got my first MB diesel gas was .80 a gallon and diesel was .40 a gallon and you had to know where to find it. This article does not take in the "wow" factor of having a a super well made old car. 240's are so easy to work on, lots of room under the hood, not so much on 300T. Max

This is absolutely NOT a stupid/foolish question ! .

It's on the top left side of the fuel tank , right under neath the first aid kid when you need to service it .

To ensure a good soaking , park the car with the right side higher than the left .

Attached are photos of the primary Diesel Fuel intake screen the day I discovered I'd bought a full tank of fungus laced Diesel Fuel , the second photo is the same filter after I'd run a couple tanks of fuel treated with Startron and the new , clean intake screen I was about to install held next to it for comparison of how it looks Vs. how you'd like it to  look .

Last photo is the new filter 100 _ miles after filling up with no Startron .

The engine runs smoother and starts faster too .

If ever you see cloudy fuel or black chunks in your intake screen , immediately fill up and add 8 Oz. or more (you cannot over dose so dumping in a whole bottle is O.K.)  and drive it clean ~ the fungus likes to hide inside the fuel gauge sender housing so it's CRITICAL to carefully fill the Startron treated tank absolutely as full as you can get it ~ I fill it to within 1/4 of the top of the filler neck to ensure the startron fills the entire fuel gauge sender and kills all the fungus .

I used to run vintage air cooled VW's long before they were ' cool ' , I loved them a lot and always enjoyed the 30 + MPG I got .

[diesel_mercedes] Miles Per Tank '81 240D Automatic

 

422 miles , almost all of it with the AC on full .

The low fuel lamp went on Saturday and has been on since , I drove 40 + miles yesterday and am planning on running it dry .

I put a 2 gallon tank of diesel fuel in the trunk to get me going again when it runs dry .

I really didn't think it'd go 400 miles .
