Either the belt is oil soaked and stretching or , you're missing something .

I have a 1982 240D and the belt has only needed adjusting once or twice in the years we've owned it .

_ALL_ the various 17MM ATF nuts & bolts must be loosened to affect proper adjustment then they must all be tightened again to keep the alternator from creeping .

I wish I was there to figure it out as it really is dead simple once you figure our the system the Germans designed .

My 85 300d had the adjusting threaded rod snapped
I needed to get it running soon and didn't want the shipping time nor the high cost for a replacement
I ground a slot across the head of the old bolt and mig welded a threaded rod into the slot. I used a large washer and nut to tighten it

it will just not stay tight no matter what even with proper technique on the adjuster bolt. this is not an early star wheel adjusterhas anyone home built an alternative?
