One step forward , three steps back I guess .
I got off work to - night and headed home to try and do home work on diesel throttle linkages , it was still hot & humid so I sat down , began to read and passed out .
SWMBO called me before sundown , I awoke and grabbed my tools , headed out to the street where my faithful old Mercedes 300CD awaited me in the shade , popped the hood and took off the vertical link between the injection pump and the monkey-motion madness , played with the monkey motion stuff a while and noticed there was some serious slop in it all , I lengthened the vertical rod by 10 MM or so , cleaned the ball joints (the lower one was dry , oops) lubed them and re assembled , still not what I wanted but clearly better .
Then I turned the plastic adjuster on the T.V. cable to the tranny a few times , turned it _in_ to shorten it as I disliked the down shifting @ freeway speeds .
Fed & watered my dogs (they're junkyard pups so when my hands are dirty , they get more & better belly rubs) , cleaned up and drove to see SWMBO ~ it accelerates batter now and doesn't down shift @ 60 MPH unless i give it over 1/2 throttle so I know I'm on the right track here .
It still doesn't accelerate with the WHOOSH ! like it did when I bought it and the engine and turbo were both shot , I want that back again and will pursue this until I learn the secret <magical> adjustments necessary ~ it's always in those devilish details
I follow every little thing I can find and after every one asks how come my old beat up klunkers out run everyone else

I had little trouble getting it up to 90 MPH on the I-210 freeway , it just doesn't feel right as the RPM's reach and pass 2,000 ~ that's where the turbo spools fully up and it *should* come alive .

Oh yes : the step back part : SWMBO drove the European Spec. wagon into the garage with the hatch open and bent the crap out of the TD only trim piece....
