[diesel_mercedes] Black smoke at startup.

We get just a little black smoke at start up, which is pretty unusual in big engines, I am used to seeing some white smoke until the engine is warm enough to burn all the fuel. Black smoke usually indicates carbon and shows up when the engine is working hard especially at lower revs.
I suspect that it is emission control related, do these lil darlins have EGR valves?

Also Once there is any warmth in the eng no problem but for the first 2 or 3 minutes in the morning the car does not have enough power to pull the skin of a rice pudding.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Power Loss Video

You do not start or stop the diesel on veggie.  You can and maybe brake a piston.  The oil does not have the proper viscosity to fire unless it is 100 degrees out.  It is really important that you do a lot of study before you run other fuels in such a great engine.  My mechanic runs his MB diesel on used motor oil cut with kerosene.  Works fine.

Did you start and stop it on veg, or did you start and diesel and warm it first before switching to veg, and then purge back to diesel before shutting down/cooling?
