Either the belt is oil soaked and stretching or , you're missing something .
I have a 1982 240D and the belt has only needed adjusting once or twice in the years we've owned it .
_ALL_ the various 17MM ATF nuts & bolts must be loosened to affect proper adjustment then they must all be tightened again to keep the alternator from creeping .
I wish I was there to figure it out as it really is dead simple once you figure our the system the Germans designed .
