I've use the Valvoline synthetic from Kragen/O"Rieleys. I have 40 k on one car
and It's smooth shifting. I think it is Mercon VI or some such designation.
It's the one for Mercedes and GM I think. 85k is a long time. Lawrence

I'll have to check the receipts. Not sure on that one.

Did he change the power steering filter and fluid? That is one most people overlook or don't know can/should be changed as well.

What on earth??? The kid I bought my car from said he got 42mpg. I got 37mpg the first time I put gas in it. This time around I got 18mpg!!!!! WHAT??? I've done the math several times, checked my reading a couple of times. I know that valve thing is leaking, but THAT MUCH? No way! I did notice that my transmission wasn't shifting properly yesterday, but would that make my gas mileage go down that much? Oh man this isn't good.
Any input is always appreciated.

before you touch anything else , go to WallyMart & buy the plug in alternator tester ($18.95) , it fits into the cigarette lighter plug and provides s dynamic real world indication of what the charging system and battery are doing .
Above idle it should be charging 13.9 VDC ~ 14.7 VDC . the cheapo voltage regulators barely top 13 VDC so if you need a new one , take the time to order up the correct Bosh brand one I posted the P/N to before , I know others have this P/N and will post it shortly ~ DO NOT allow the parts boob to have you anything else as THERE _IS_ A DIFFERENCE ! .

Why do you cay the battery ' fried ' ? .
What is the specific symptom you're having ? .

I've read over and over again in the book that my '81 300D should have Dexron B. Where can I find it? I checked WM, kinda figured they wouldn't have it. Checked O'Reilly, they didn't have it.

[diesel_mercedes] Where to buy Crank case ventilation hose & fitting for the valve cover...
I just added an album to the Photos section. It's called "Trish's '81 300D".
In there I put a pic of me with my car, but more importantly I have pictures of 2 items I have questions about regarding a rigged up item that I need to replace.
It's the Crank case ventilation hose & fitting for the valve cover & air filter housing.
The other picture is of a leaking valve or so I was told.
Input please from those in the know!
