YAY !

My '85 MB 300D CA just got a new (re-manufactured) transmission, from Sun Valley Mercedes Trans, as well as got sorted out with a pre-turbo exhaust leak, and turbo return line oil leak. While the tranny needs a little tweaking with modulator, it seems really nice. This car uses the 722.416 tranny, so harder to find a good used one.
Replacing the tranny is a PITA in your driveway, yet it feels good to have got all the parts back on, including those upper bolts that are especially hard to reach. In the middle of taking it out, I was wondering if it was really a good idea.
The '85 CA model has a canister between the manifold and the turbo, originally a Trap-Oxidizer, later replaced by a particle trap CAT, which likes to break every handful of years, and blow exhaust around the engine compartment and eliminate most of the boost pressure. I found a replacement pipe which fits in there and hopefully lasts much longer.
The oil leak just needed a few O-rings and seal at the base of the return line, which is easy with the turbo off.
Anyway, I think an Italian tuneup is in order.

Next is the Tranny rebuild, then a few oil leaks: one at the turbo exit tube, and also at the oil filter canister.
