Diesel RVs: 12/17/17

My MB has been starting a bit noisy and rattling in the morning, so I
thought maybe some glow plugs were out, yet when I checked they all were
good.

Thinking of other things that may cause the car to run a little hard,
first checked the air filter and it was filthy, and I knew the fuel
filters needed to be changed, so today was as good as any to do this work.

After finishing the fuel filters and revving through the air bubbles in
the line, I noticed that the power steering fluid looked a little
cloudy, so I changed out a few rounds of fluid, then changed that filter
too.

We'll see if it sounds better in the morning, besides that "rattling
can" sound I still have from the CAT cover.

Nice to get a few things done.

432 miles, 23 MPG .

I think that's slightly better than the last tank .

Silver bottle Diesel Kleen used .

The micronic paper element filter I'm running in the fuel return hose was dean black again and a small amount of tiny black chunks in the clear plastic intake screen.....

I drove it quite a ways with the low fuel lamp on and was swerving left and right to swish the fuel around and stir up the dirt, this worked well judging by the crap in the return filter, I also made some new friends (maybe not) as I was doing so.....

A nice day at the beach for the Show & Shine, some old guy in a tired but undented and very original 1980 W116 showed up, he's had the car 15 years and loves it but doesn't want to spend any more $ fixing the same things he fixed 15 years ago when he bought the car......

He told me he doesn't think it has much value but still runs well .
