I got some progress done yesterday .
I jacked up the back of the '59 VW and looked at the remaining grease on the transmission and chassis Pics. 1,2 & 3, cleaned up some more (but not enough) and began removing what was left of the engine to body seal Pic. # 4, I had to use a box cutter to cut it then I was able to remove it in pieces using a super thin and long flat blade screwdriver to chip & pry out the little pieces of rubber then I used duck bill pliers and a vintage brake adjusting spoon tool to straighten out the sheet metal retainer Pic. # 6 , I'd purchased new American made WCM seals Pic.5 and after a few hours of labor had the engine bay cleaner and ready for engine installation Pic. $ 6 .
By this time I looked like I'd been wallowing in a grease pit so I cleaned up just as Tom came by and helped me to push the car into the street and turn it around, back it into the driveway so it's more or less ready to install the engine, I need to take apart the throw out bearing and re grease it, I was going to replace it but upon cleaning it with a rag I discovered it's an original German made factory VW part, I taught my self how to disassemble and lubricate these in the 1970's, might as well save this one as I'm sure any new one I find locally will be cheapo Chinese .
Progress !
.

It was windy and COLD last night ~ the radio said 45* F ~ I wasn't getting up out of my warm bed to check .
