Re: [diesel_mercedes] 240D Lack Of Power & Hard Starting

This is my second 240D. My first was a snazzy red with black interior '74.
She ran well again tonight. It's getting near time to top it off. I ran it until it coasted last time. Fuel gage lied to me. Since then I took it apart and found the labrynth and the bleed hole in its base to completely clogged, causing it to retain fuel and preventing the float from dropping all the way. I swayed her a few times to get a load of fuel in the pickup and made it to a station before I had to walk. I don't want to risk that again. I'm getting too lazy to go hiking with a can in my hand anymore.
New fuel pump will be here on Friday. Sunday is the Botham Vineyards car show in Barneveldt WI. Haven't missed one in 22 years and the only one I did not show up in a Citroen was the first one. This might be a shock to a few people, but I am not sorry to have this car.
Thank you all for your support and your great advice.

That's pretty good ~ my '82 240D goes 83MPH top speed, if there's no wind and it's flat ground .

I hope you remember to wait a few moments _after_ the glow plug lamp goes out before cranking ~ this helps immesurably .

Try to run each tankful to the low fuel lamp coming on before refilling and adding more <magic> juice .

I made a point of running mine out until it dies on the freeway and this allowed me to get out lots of crud in the very bottom of the fuel tank .

Took her for a ride tonight. Started with a rip. Ran like a watch. I
decided to open her up. The front end has not been up to it until last
week. She began to top out on the level at slightly over 80. I think
that's good for, whatever, 65 hp. Second start took two tries and
smoother. Leisurely ride back.
Ordered a Bosch pre-pump.
Let's see how she behaves tomorrow.
