Re: [diesel_mercedes] HC12a AC Charge

Butane works best.  Like R12 times 12....

Thanx  Max ;

I've heard of bubbas down South using Propane in older Auto AC , it's *very* dangerous although of course no one plans to wreck their car....

[diesel_mercedes] W123 Fuse # 8 ? [1 Attachment]

[Attachment(s) from Nate included below]

O.K. , the other day I was tooling along with the fresh air fan on blowing gently in my face , then it died .

I looked in the fuse box and found this *:-O surprise  :

This fuse supposedly only runs the HVAC fan and is supposed to use an 8 Ampere one .

I replaced the fan not long ago , I hope it hasn't died as I don't have any idea where I put the receipt .

Sigh .

Of course it had to die right at the beginning of Summer....

[diesel_mercedes] OOPS ! (Delivery Valve Service) [1 Attachment]

[Attachment(s) from Nate included below]

5.17

Can you see the noobie mistake I made last time I had these out ? .

To - day I decided enough lollygagging 'round , time to get back to work , I gathered the spare set of matched delivery valves I harvested recently cleaned each one separately , wire brushing the barrel clean of old gummy fuel and polishing until it shone , then I washed it and the pintle Hospital Clean with aerosol brake cleaner , re assembled and set aside , opened up the IP's delivery valves and discovered some occluded fuel in the wells and some really fine silty stuff I cleaned out with Q-Tips then blew the IP's wells out , installed the new set of used , non BOSCH valves and pintles , cleaned the injectors where the fuel pipes connect (only a tiny bit of silt in the #'s 3 , 4 & 5) , buttoned it all back up , blew a small amout of black chunls out of the clear plastic intake screen , primed the system then washed the engine as the IP had dribbled diesel fuel the entire time I had it open in spit of clamping both feed and return hoses.... naturally when the IP dribbles fuel , it dribbles it directly on the motor mounts and engine shock absorber mounts that I just replaced....

Grabbed a milk crate (to sit on) , brushes and a sponge ball bottle cleaner thing on a stick , some wheel cleaner and had at the tires and Bundt wheels , the sponge ball thing worked pretty well in those hard to clean wheel holes .

Worked up a fresh bucket of car wash soap and washed the whole car , the dingdang oil pan pixies have been at it again while I was sleeping , there's now a serious dent or four plus right near the oil drain plug the bottom of the pan is so thin it has a crack in it and drips ~ this meat the entire back of the car (that I just washed all the diesel smoot off of two weeks ago) was oily and filthy *~X( at wits' end .

Anyways , it's *much* cleaner now , I had to discard the new wash rag (I'll dry it and use as a grease rag 'till it's truly dead) and wash my new synthetic chamois as it got a few black streaks on it .

I also replaced one hood spring that inexplicably bent (?! WTH ?!) with a nice perfect champagne colored one I bought last month .

As usual  , the car runs out fine , I still see exhaust smoke when leaving a dead stop but very little , we'll see how bad it is at night with head lights behind me .

To - morrow I hope to make up an injection timing drip tool and soon I'll time the IP , test it for smoke then begin on the injectors .

Whew ~ lotsa hard work for this old fat man *:-B nerd .

RE: [diesel_mercedes] Road Eats

Nate – what / where is the fan you speak of?

Heater fan?    Water pump – is the wiring in good condition?  Connections?

My knowledge base is limited to 220D

Hi Warren ;

There used to be a really good Pizza place in Frazier Park , back in the mid ~ late 1990's I was dating and drove through on dates bi weekly , was lots of good little hole in the wall eateries there then .

100 + MPH is a good thing to do occasionally as it heats up the combustion chambers really well and blows out the accumulated carbon ~ the car always runs better after that but , I'm skittish because I don't ever want to wreck again , I'm in constant pain now from the last event .

Good tires , shocks and no loose suspension bits is critical to doing this safely .

It's been cool and humid in L.A. so I rolled on some heat and  Lo ! the HVAC quit entirely .

I wonder of the electric auxiliary water pump is too old and draws too much current or something ? .

I was told there's a fuse (or something) deep inside the P.B.U. that fries when the Aux. pump seizes or draws too much current .

Dammit ~ it's almost Summer and no fan makes these cars miserable in the heat we get .

Thanks for the greetings from Lebec.   Great Mexican restaurant up the road in "downtown" Frazier Park.

Not by the truck stops.  Drove through there late January this year and it was snowing and blowing.

Got through just before the CHP closed it down.

110 MPH, nice, kind of an Autobahn feeling
