[diesel_mercedes] Fuel Fun

O.K. , I'm over 500 miles now and it's still running .

When I go home i removed the clear plastic fuel screen , shook the bejeebers out of it to try and get the tiny black chunks loose , blew it out back wards , sprayed it with aerosol brake cleaner than gave up and replace it .

The fuel in it looked like watery milk (!) when I restarted the car it filled again with this same stuff so I'm really going to try and run it dry .

Two of the injector return hoses have begun to weep and are wet .

I'm pretty sure I have spare Diesel return hose in the map pocket but not a razor blade / cutter to install it with .

To - morrow perhaps .

I found a guy with two dead W123 wagons , no hatches of course but he says he'll remove me an unbent window lift to - morrow .

Maybe he'll have a third row seat seat belt too .

Flush out all the old coolant then try a Citric Acid flush Brian ~ I had that too : the coolant looked fine but every time I drained and re filled it , I'd get more crud.....

This intrigues me a bit.Based on the oily crud in the old thermostat (which was only 3 years old), I am thinking I may have some blobkage - but the drained coolant and water looked fine. I suspect I may try a back flush and pull the bottom hose off before I get too excited - just to make sure the water pump is circulating water through the system which I don't think is happening right now.

[diesel_mercedes] Fuel Mieage

I hear you Max ~ my '82 240D has one very low compression cylinder yet still gives me close to 30 MPG's in town and often up to 34 ~ 36 when driving it to Las Vegas full of kids and stuff .

[diesel_mercedes] Translucent Fuel

Is what I'm seeing in the clear plastic intake screen .

Some black crud too .

I hope it doesn't run out on the Pasadena Freeway because there's almost NO breakdown areas there

Oil rises on top of water. That bit you found could be all there was over a period of three years, if you didn’t see any in the fluid you drained.  Bill in Oregon
