[diesel_mercedes] Re: Newer Mercedes

After selling my 1984 300CD, I bought a 1991 300D that I still own that just passed 384K mikes and is still running strong and a very nice 1995 E300D with only 212K (black/black) which still gets attention every where I go.  Both get ~30 MPG on a regular basis although the 1995 will get 33-34 on road trips.  Both require minimal maintenance and neither requires oil between changes.  Not sure how new you want to go, but there are still some decent 91-93 and 95 124 body style diesels around for under $5K.  If you want to go up a bit in size and price, 126 body style diesels i.e., 300SD,  appear on eBay occasionally for $5-$8K with under 200K miles.  A friend of mine just scored a 2008 E320 BluTec diesel with 59K for $14,900, but that is getting pricey
