Since you live in LA, I'm sure you are a expert surfer. When I lived there, Huntington Beach pier was our spot. About 1966. Vw vans and the beach boys. I am sure its probably a bit different now. Prepare your self for months on end of grey skies and endless drizzle, high 30's and giant slugs. Max (on the dry sunny side)

It is good to hear about various modes of transportation. I like(d) riding horses, taking the train across country, driving my v-8's with multi carbs, my vw beetles, and now my diesels. The only thing I could not master was a skateboard.
