Nate, I posted a video (somehow) on your "raw fuel thread". Check at 19 min mark. he pulls the elements out. I pulled them from mine to confirm the orientation of the sleeve that the fluted part fits in. The grove on the outside is down. My memory was off on the copper ring, it' a flat copper washer.
When I got my first MB 240d someone before did service and put two washers in one, and none in the next. Leaked.
