Yup, your mention of the IP crud made me think a piece may have made it to the mated surfaces in the tip. Then I'm thinking, how to flush the crud from the IP? Did you get to "feel" a piece of the crud? Hard or soft? My guess is the car sat and settled "fine particles" from older diesel fuel. Now it's flaking loose. I have not done this, but I wonder if the delivery valves on the IP were pulled, could a solvent be manually pumped through to flush it?
