Re: [diesel_mercedes] recent cold weather start

I have never replaced one but have installed two in two 240's. I took the starters out for easier access to the hole. One of them, my automatic, had a 19mm plug(needed a 19mm allen) to get it out, it was really stuck. needed about a 7 foot pipe on the end of the allen wrench and a strong 20 yo old boy on the end of that to break it loose. I dont drive my Mercedes in winter due to living off grid and a very long frozen snowy driveway with a good uphill, but when I have taken the trouble to run the block heaters for a couple hours, easy start. Yes, I meant a valve adjustment... Also agree that the block heater is the best. But mine gave away some years ago, and I have read everywhere that replacing it is risky - involves heating up the old one to "cherryred" to get it out, etc. The alternatives do not seem very good.
