Re: [diesel_mercedes] Be Safe

I grew up in Anaheim, and often went into that Stanton/Garden Grove area. My piano teacher lived off Gilbert as well.

Just a reminder guys - "A 55-year-old Stanton man was crushed to death while changing the brake pads on his minivan, a fire official said Thursday evening. The victim had used jacks to raise the vehicle, but one of them failed as he was underneath the van in an alley behind his home in the 10600 block of Gilbert Street, according to the Orange County Fire Authority. "The car landed right on top of him," Capt. Steve Concialdi said."

It certainly doesn't pay to skimp on jacking equipment.

Me too. I run the front wheel up on ramps, then jack the rear wheels up and put ramps under the rear wheels too. Then I use jack stands if I want the wheels free, and I keep the hydraulic jack under something too. My head is empty, but it is the only one I have. Always remember one car where the jack went south and the car went north.

Yeah, happened to me, once, about 25-years ago.  Luckily, I was even skinnier and more wiry than I am now.  Broke my collarbone, though, and I had nightmares about it off and on for years.  Now, not only do I use jack stands and a really good dolly-type hydraulic jack,  I try not to get my whole body under the car and am always thinking about the quickest way out.
