Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Fuel Gauge

Nate -
Thank you for the response!
I have rear seats (grey market car) but they can't be too hard to remove.  I presume the sender will be obvious once the seat is out?

Thanks,
Chris

I guess not ;

The main thing is to NOT pull the dashboard apart until you're tested the tank sender ~ this is done by removing the first aid kit box on the left rear parcel shelf .

Once you unplug the sender , see if the gauge moves ~ if not , try grounding the wires in the plug .

Hello all -
I have both a 75 240D & a grey market 84 380SLSL (love them but they're works in progress)
the SL's odometer has stopped working & the gas gauge is pegged at full
I swapped the 240's cluster yrs ago so I feel comfortable pulling the cluster on the SL

I'm tempted to replace the odo gear myself as it looks like a good DIY
I've also read that the fuel gauge issue could likely be the result of a bad ground

I'm curious how difficult these projects could be & if the degree is too high, what's a reputable shop that people know of (I'm in Ohio but I'm sure it wld be sent out) - lastly, how much I should expect a shop to charge if I sent it out to them. I guess I should add that if I sent the cluster out for repair, I would also have the gauge faces put back to black - someone swapped them out at some point for white (not sure if I could do this).

Thanks much in advance - I've learned a ton over the years reading all the emails that fly back & forth & have enjoyed the adventures / antics of this membership.
