When that happened to me, it was a leak from the Power Steering pump which (I think) I fixed with a new seal. It eventually rotted my 5 year old hood pad, and the replacement pad now sits in my living room waiting for a sunshiny day - might happen today or Monday - $60 for the pad, and $30 for the 3M adhesive at NAPA.
